It’s about the money and corruption.
“Voluntary” retirement from government should not come with a $762,868.77 lump sum bonus. Read the summary of our oversight investigations. Our biggest stories – incredibly – have still yet to publish.

It’s about our military heroes.
Dr. Breuder’s name would go on the COD Homeland Security Building. A real hero, like Sgt. Robert Miller – a Medal of Honor Winner from Wheaton should be on the building. Sign the petition for Sgt. Miller.

Here’s what President Obama said about Sgt. Robert Miller.

Compare this to Dr. Breuder. Watch Dr. Robert Breuder’s interview where he states that he could never go into the military unless he went in as a Five Star General. Breuder said because he’s “born to lead.”

It’s about government acting in secret.
We sued them to enforce the Open Meetings Act. Read Chicago Tribune Jodi Cohen article here. The COD Board negotiated in secret for nine months, and voted without disclosure or recital of the terms. That’s a slap in the face to open government and transparency. Read Daily Herald Safiya Merchant article here.

Read the Chicago Tribune summary of the long history of COD secret actions.

It’s about the Republican establishment in DuPage County
This COD Board is a 4-3 nominal Republican majority. Only Vice Chairman Kathy Hamilton has strongly battled the corruption and is rightly lauded for her courage. Republican leadership could stop this mess. What are Republican leaders going to do?

Read Chris Robling’s challenge to Republicans – A Time For Cleansing – at Illinois Review this morning.

Winfield Republican Allison O’Donnell, the board secretary, is not running for re-election. If O’Donnell flips and votes no, then the two Democrats on the board – Nancy Svoboda and Kim Savage – have a choice… are they really going to face the voters in April after conferring this package?

It’s about you. You can’t complain if you don’t show up. Please speak up!

With enough citizens maximizing their right to a three minute public comment, we can stop this nonsense at College of DuPage. The vote is going to be close, and we need your support.

I’ll see you tonight. For The Good of Illinois.

Over 75 regular people gave public comment for over three hours. Watch as I aggressively battled the legalities of this outrageous payment.

Our lawyers – Timothy Elliott, Charlie Philbrick, and Jordan Franklin – convinced Judge Bonnie Wheaton to force COD to open a large room to accommodate the 500 citizens. Read Chicago Tribune article

State Rep. Jack Franks (D- Marengo) threatened to withhold $1.25 million of state funding.

The pressure was intense on this college board… in fact, the board stood up (for the first time in three meetings) for the pledge of allegiance. The board blamed previous COD boards. Incredibly, Trustee Savage blamed the 500 citizens for not showing up– years earlier. Chairman Erin Birt repeatedly stated that she takes this stuff seriously. Really?

And then they rubber-stamped 6-1 the $762,868.77 severance package of the college President. Read Daily Herald recap story here.

The coalition united against this action was formidable and non-partisan. But, for many people in the audience, these were their supposed “friends” – a Republican majority board. The coalition feels sold out.

Last night, this board told the people that their voice doesn’t matter. In the April elections, three board seats are on the ballot. At the ballot box, the people must speak with their vote.

For The Good of Illinois.
